Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the difference between HIPEC and PIPAC?

HIPEC delivers heated chemotherapy into the abdomen during open surgery to treat peritoneal disease, usually in a single session alongside tumour removal. PIPAC (Pressurised Intraperitoneal Aerosol Chemotherapy) delivers chemotherapy as a pressurised aerosol through keyhole surgery and can be repeated, often for patients with more advanced peritoneal spread. The choice depends on disease extent and overall condition.

Which cancers are treated with HIPEC or PIPAC?

These treatments are used for cancers that have spread to the lining of the abdomen (the peritoneum), including ovarian, colorectal, stomach, appendiceal, and primary peritoneal cancers. A detailed assessment determines whether a patient is a candidate.

Is HIPEC or PIPAC available in Vijayawada?

Yes. Dr. Kalyan Polavarapu offers peritoneal surface oncology procedures including HIPEC and PIPAC at American Oncology Institute, Vijayawada and Guntur, giving patients in the region access to these advanced treatments locally.
